Deimos’s Thoughts
Have been playing Hellgate : London for some time, and I kinda got sick of the bugs and random server disconnects, crashes to desktops for no bloody good reason. After watching the video preview and gameplay review of Mythos which I blogged about in this post, another online action RPG PC game by Flagship Studios, I got that nostalgic feeling and made me wanna play Diablo 2 again.

One main factor for me to try out Diablo 2 again, is that while browsing the the official US / EU Hellgate : London forums, I came across a post in which a fellow player commented: “If wanna play Diablo 2 again, play it with the Eastern Sun mod.”

I recalled having played such a Diablo 2 mod before, quite a long time ago though. I did not continue to play that mod much, since online play was not readily available, i.e. the official battle.net does not support mods.

Today, I installed and patched my Diablo 2 : Lord of Destruction to 1.11b, downloaded and installed the Eastern Sun Diablo 2 mod. Launched it, and I was amazed! It felt like this freaking mod made Diablo 2 into a whole new game, I really felt like playing a new game again.

Tried out the Necromancer class, as my name - Deimos Tel`Arin seems to sound more “dark”, “evil” or “demonic” etc. Plus, I think my first character on battle.net was a Necromancer too. Instead of being armed with a wand and a head, my Necromancer was equipped with a scythe! Wicked! Very fast attack speed too! I checked out the skills, and I went, whoah! Bloody new skill tree! Wadafak? I can reset all the skills?

Next, I opened the attributes sheet, wao lao eh! Can subtract points one! It is like the offspring of Diablo 2 and Guild Wars! Awesome! Friggin brilliant! Took a peek at the stash, oh my freaking goodness! Its huge, and I really mean HUGE! You are able to scroll through pages of your stash! I’m not sure how many pages there are, I’ve reached 1000+ pages and there is no ending yet. Did I also mention that there is a SHARED STASH as well?

Features of Eastern Sun, a Diablo 2 Mod
Hoookay, time to summarize a few exciting new features that this mod features:
- New type of monsters in existing locations
- Totally revamped skills tree
(feels like playing a new game since almost all skills and skill trees revised)
- Improved Henchmen?
(I really think the henchmen’s ability to frag monsters is greatly improved)
- HUGE Inventory
- HUGE Horadic Cube
- HUGE Stash and Shared Stash
- Able to reset skills, re-allocate attributes
- HUGE amount of new items, runewords, etc
- etc
