Prototype Sound Fix – Overview A Prototype Sound Fix for Prototype players who have sound issues or sound problems while playing Prototype. Many Prototype players experience chipmunk sounds or simply no sound at all during the Prototype in game cinematics. This Prototype Sound Fix will those sound issues and problems. |
Prototype Sound Fix – Summary
1. Open files [ ..\Prototype\00audio.rcf ] and [ ..\Prototype\01audio.rcf ] via ScarfaceExplorer.
2. Extract files into the [ ..\Prototype\Audio ] folder.
3. Rename [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio\ambience.p3d ] into something else.
4. Rename [ ..\Prototype\00audio.rcf ] and [ ..\Prototype\01audio.rcf ] into something else.
5. Select all files and folders (Ctrl – A) in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio ] folder.
6. Cut all files and folders (Ctrl – X) in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio\audio ] folder.
7. Paste them in the [ ..\Prototype\Audio ] folder.
8. Start Prototype and play the game without any sound issues.
This method has been tested on Windows XP SP3 and it is confirmed to work. sos
The stuttering, lagging sound problems causing the in game cinematics to lag, slow down, becoming slide shows are fixed. No more sound issues or sound problems!

Make sure you download the ScarfaceExplorer software first.
Prototype Sound Fix – Extract files into audio folder
Choose the right folder to extract the files into, do you have enough hard disk space?
Prototype Sound Fix – Rename 00audio.rcf
Rename the file instead of deleting it, just in case you need it for a future patch.
Prototype Sound Fix – Rename ambience.p3d
This file is not big at all, just rename it. Who knows, you might need it if there is a patch.

For those user who tryed everything that is written above and it did’t worked. I found a solution. I’ve tryed everything but still I had’t any sound in the game, so i did following (audio device realtek HD):
1) Uninstall the game
2) In realtek HD option where is input and output find option where you can chose 44.1 kHZ
3) In the device manager I turned off modem dobleduplex device
4) Install the game. DON’T USE THE ABOVE STEPS ANY MORE.
FINALLY AFTER 2 DAYS OF TRYING I’M PLAYING THE GAME WITH NORMAL SOUND AT THE BEGINNING. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH SOUND FURTHER I DON”T KNOW. BUT FIRST CUTSCENE WAS PERFECT. THIS IS MY ADVICE. I have the same problem as Gary, soundmax doesn’t have the change bitrate dropdown option. I did all the above instructions and renamed the two files and still no sound.
One thing, do you rename the file just before the extension, or just name it altogether and remove the extension.

i did steps that Deimos said.it works very fine.i have realtek sound device.for realtek ,changing output setting to 44.1 is possible in vista and for xp i couldn’t find this setting in options.in xp controlpanel you can find this setting with another interface : audio devices>speaker settings>advanced>performance.you can change the hardware acceleration to lower settings.but it didn’t solve my problem.anyway you can test for both realtek or soundmax.i have xp sp2 and Deimos solution solved my problem and works fine.

I found the solution for me (on XP SP3 with SoundMax integrated HD audio) from the activision forums.
I had no sound at all.
Solution: Disable all other audio devices.
I have a creamware audio card and also had SoundTap Recoder as well.
Once I disabled them in the device manager it worked.

This didn’t work for me — same issues as before. I don’t have squeeky or crackling audio, I have a problem with the cutscenes lagging on me when I have my vsync on. I can fix it by turning my vsync off, but then the game is a line-broken mess, so that’s no real solution. Anyone else having this specific issue? Have you figured out how to fix it outside of this fix? And I have my audio output to 44.1 already.
*I thought I should mention I changed my resolution from 1920 x 1080 to 1680 x 1050 and I don’t have this issue anymore. Sucks to give up resolution, but at least I can play the game smoothly now.

It works, but, at certain points in the game, like when your on the mission with the doctor to drive him in the tank to the test center and you have to defend the lab, upon returning him, if you did this trick, it will sit there forever until you alt + f4, so right before this mission, un-do this patch by renaming audio00.rcf back to the original name, and also, the other mission is where you have to destroy the bunches of tanks because the one guy has the super tank or whatever, hypobolic whatever, the end of that mission when you consume him, you also need to un-do the patch for that one to work.

My sound was fine, I have it set to Qudrophonic (4.0) in the windows audio settings but when I changed it to Stereo Headphones it was really muffled, the exact same problem as the others here. Changing it back to Quadrophonic made it work fine again.
Maybe people can try changing their speaker options before removing gamefiles, it shouldn’t work like this but when a game crashes 5 times because your router has lost sync anything goes

Well, I tried literally every fix I could find for this game (I beat the game with no sound whatsoever, with heavy metal playing), and none of them worked, including the one(s) above. Finally, I stumbled upon the fix, and it was simpler than i could have imagined! I have WinXP SP3, so this may only work for that:
Select Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel, and select the Audio tab. there should be a checkbox that says ‘use only default devices’. Check that and try it out.

I did the soundfix steps even changed the sound in ze control panel. So now the sound works.
BUT the game suddenly freezes and i can’t do anything but reset the computer manualy (holding down the power button). CTRL + ALT + DEL dosent even work.

Oh and if you replace these files you will get stuck at certain steps as im sure people have noticed. So this is only a VERY temporary fix. Changing the sound bitrate dosent help either. Way to go activsion releasing a game that dosent work and then not giving out a patch for months? im mean seriously get your shit together.

Okay, so i had the same problem and what fixed it for me was reducing it to 16bit 48000HZ. Originally i had it at as high as it could go but on my other computer this didn’t work. Chipmunk audio. By decreasing it to, i believe 24bit 44100HZ this was fixed but i realized that there was no audio in the gameplay (well a bit but most sound effects were not, bullets, ravens, etc…). But then changing it to 16bit 48000Hz did the trick, not high though or else chipmunk audio will become a problem again but this worked fine

I checked my sound settings and found that for some reason they were switched back to 7.1 speakers. I have headphones on so I obviously couldn’t hear some stuff >_>. After switching to headphones, I could hear dialogue and voices fine (Sound Blaster Audigy SE sound card). I assume you’ll hafta make that change every time cause the 7.1 speakers thing resets itself. Thanks a bunch!

then, follow the tutorial and delete ambience.p3d
what I did from here… i DELETED ALL FILES WITH “AMBIENT” and “AMBIENCE” in their name , so now web of intrigue isn’t freezing anymore, cinematics and sounds are working fine !
most of ambience/ambient files are in Audio/english/AudioFile
i found about 36 files… deleted them all.

1.)right click “speakers” to the opposite corner of the start menu.
2.)click “playback devices”.
3.)double click “Speakers”.
4.)in the upper part you will see “advanced”, click it.
5.)then change the default format to “16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality).
6.)click “test”(optional), apply then start the game. EASY right mate. 😀

i set the ingame sound and changed the frame rate or whatever it is called. on 85 i got sound.
check out if you have the same problem^^
btw: i use win xp prof sp3 with newest working driver and updates (no alpha or beta versions)

So im running on vista and I have been trying all kinds of things downloading patches but the patches never dl cuz the sites go stupid or something. My problem is I have all my sounds maxed and the stuffs so low I have to strain just to hear it. I have changed the things in the sound drivers and it doesnt do anything. I tryd this fix but I am only able to do steps 1 and 2 after that the said files arent found anywhere and I am at a loss as to how to get this thing fixed. The first day I played the game it was good on sound then it gradually when to this little quite crap.
