Overview
EntreCard vs Spottt. Find out who wins. Wait, I think you already knew that. Find out why Spottt lost instead. Yeah, Spottt is plain terrible while EntreCard is just that good.
Initial Reactions of EntreCard and Spottt
I believe that in order for me to give a good comparison, I ought to give Spottt a try first. To slash a tediously long story short:
EntreCard:
Genuine traffic were driven to my site EntreCard several seconds after I installed the EntreCard Widget onto my site, I was totally impressed.
Spottt:
No traffic driven to my site on the first day. Just “Impressions” which means that my 125×125 Square Banner is shown on other Spottt-happy sites. No click means no traffic driven to my site. Not impressed at all. Utterly disappointed instead.
Spottt FAILS at driving traffic effectively
Perhaps folks are just too scared to click on my 125×125 banner after they saw my grimacing purple face and red hair. Am I really that freakish? A picture is worth a thousand words so check out the following screenie:
My conclusion – Spottt totally fails at driving traffic to one’s site effectively. Plus, I am not sure if I even trust the statistics provided in the above chart as I can’t seem to find any concrete proof to back up the statistical data provided by Spottt’s Stats-O-Rama thingie.
Comparison Chart of EntreCard vs Spottt by Graham
Check out what Graham wrote over here:
http://entrecard.com/blog/?p=147
The following is a chart that Graham made up, see the differences for yourselves:
EntreCard just owns Spottt, just that simple. Period.
EntreCard rocks because Graham reciprocates
Forgot to mention this earlier, putting this in now.
Now try and beat that, Spottty!
Actually, Phirate also reciprocated my drop, but I forgot to capture a screenie.
EntreCard rocks because I know John Chow visited my site
To be honest, I was totally surprised when I saw his face showing up in my inbox.
And the one in my EntreCard Inbox:
He probably just stayed long enough for the EntreCard widget to finish loading so he could drop a card and get on with the next one, but a drop means an actual visit nonetheless.
Deimos’s Daily Reads
The following are snippets of various articles from fellow EntreCarders that managed to catch my interests. Wanna get featured in this section?
Drop your EntreCard into my EntreCard Inbox.
Blogger and EntreCarder from Norway – Staale the Viking Blogger decided to give Kontera a try and seeing this, I would exercise my fingers with Jedi reflexes to maneuver my mouse away from the Kontera pop ups should I happen to visit Staale’s site.
A homemaker with four kids – Bubbles shared with us some useful tips on getting our Mini-Me(s) well fed and healthy which I found to be quite worth a read for parents with young kids. I have yet to have any kids since I am not married yet.
Working at home apparently drove this mum mad and she believes that aesthetically ugly blogs or web sites are the ones that is making big amounts of moolah.
Ranks – Alexa Traffic Rank, Technorati’s Authority and Rank, Google Page Rank etc. Do they concern you? Bruce Hopkins believes that Bloggers ought to work hard to improve these various ranks in order to help a blog better stand out in the sea of blogs.
An old news, but I did not realize that there was a way to game EntreCard’s Ad Queuing system as highlighted by Jake Rinards two (2) weeks ago.
Deimos’s Thoughts
Spottt is a waste of my site’s precious ad space so I de-widgetized the Spottt Widget from my site. Begone! Spottt! Bad Spottt! Don’t come back ever! RAWR! RWAR!
Deimos Asks
To whom may this concern:
1. Are you a Blogger? [DTA: Erm… I think so]
2. Are you an EntreCarder? [DTA: Yeah! Babe! Yeah!]
3. Are you a Spottty? [DTA: Duh… was one for like a week]
4. Is EntreCard effectively driving traffic to your site? [DTA: TOTALLY!]
5. Is Spottt driving ANY traffic to your site? [DTA: A bit. Not worth it]
Thank you for your time! [DTA: You’re welcome! Eh… I replied myself! What the poke?]

I wanted to try spottt so I used in my spanish blog, after one day it was kicked out for being in spanish but I earn amore than 4000 credits then I changed the url and placed the widget in android’s dungeon to use those credits….
Now I have more than 5000 credits unused… I don’t understand well how does spottt works but it have only driven 10 clicks to my site, and I have produced 24… very few I think, anyway, I don’t thikn it’s worth a 125×125 space, not even in my small blog.

Thank you for reviewing and comparing Entrecard vs Spottt. This is going to save me from wasting my time on spottt. Now, I’d love it if you’d do another for that new adsflip site 😉 .
And, thanx for the mention of my new blog site!

I’ve also tested Spott for about a week now, and my experience is even worse than yours. It seems to be the same with adsflips (or whatever it is called), The CTR is just awful.

They also never reply to any questions / concerns raised. Just one big bad corporation with no soul but I’m keeping the ad for now.
About the thousands of credits not being spent, supposedly there was a problem and so you earned lots of credits for showing the SPOTTT ad while they were fixing things and now the credits can be spent again.
Btw, Deimos, I did see your ad but didn’t click on it. I am still experimenting but probably will drop it.

Hi Deimos! You rock and Entrecard does, too. Thanks for the entre credits.
I totally agree with you. What are impressions good for anyway when our site needs traffic. I hope spottt gets better though and get around to give us more than what they currently offer. Entrecards is the best, hands down. 😎

While spottt.com appears to be registered as early as 2005, its blog said it launched only this year. I checked out archive.org and found out that spottt.com was already offering the same service then. It then became a different site in 2006 and 2007, and it looks like it’s now riding on the popularity of Entrecard.
It’s from Adbrite, a known brand in Web advertising, but I’m too addicted with Entrecard right now I don’t have the time yet to try Spottt.

I dropped Spottt after a couple of days. The Spottt on my blog was clicked on a few times, but mine never showed up on other sites…Also, there were some ads I was uncomfortable with. I wish there was a way to control what ads are shown. Entrecard for the win.

To be honest, you were a little bias 😕 but it was a good review. I love entrecard too so I’m also bias! But the only thing with Spott is that it saids that your card were shown that many time but can you really prove that it was shown that many times?

The fact that Darren put an EntreCard widget on ProBlogger certainly helped draw quality blogs, too. Quality people got in to start with and it drew more quality. (John Chow, too, I suppose, though honestly I never read his site before EntreCard.)

I decided not to even try Spott after reading Phirate’s chart on the Entrecard blog. Not surprised to learn that it didn’t work well, though amazingly I am starting to see lots of sites put the Spott widget above the EC widget. Then too, I still see lots of sites who have Blogrush above EC. I guess these crappy traffic exchanges flourish because so many people continue to use them, even after many in the communities have tried them and pointed out their flaws.
