It has caused uproar in Malawi, where she was at the time, and it still rumbles on. While I think she was insensitive and tactless, the reaction from some has been extreme. The whole blog was very frivolous. It used to be on Travel Pod and has now been deleted apart from a brief and poorly written apology - and that hasn't helped. All that was just to say, I do agree that you need to think carefully about what you say. You can't always avoid offending people and you can't please everyone, but you should at least show some respect for others.
