Deimos’s WordPress is installed in the root path i.e. ahkong.net so this method works for Deimos and after doing this, he is able to upload images, pictures, photos etc.

It appears that adding these few lines of code to your .htaccess file works too:

Deimos totally did not expect himself to run into any major problems with WordPress 2.5, when he came across this one, he consulted Big-G and found an answer.

Deimos Asks
Did you try to upload any images, pictures, photos etc after updating to WordPress 2.5? Besides a question relevant to this article, here one question that Deimos is eager for an honest reply – Do you ever check out the articles mentioned in Deimos’s Daily Reads?

So what is the problem?
If you try to access your WordPress 2.5 Widgets control panel, you might see the following:

Want to edit your widgets, but where is the “Save Changes” button?

How to fix this problem?
Deimos has totally no idea how to fix this problem, but the following steps allowed him to edit his widgets. Just deactivate the plugin, edit widgets, save, activate plugin.

1. Deactivate Top Commentators Widget
2. Access Widgets control panel, make necessary amendments, save changes
3. Activate Top Commentators Widget

Until there is a newer version of this WordPress plugin which address this issue, this would have to do for now. Quite a hassle, luckily Deimos does not modify his widgets that often.

Deimos did not see this issue being mentioned (maybe Deimos did not search hard enough) and wonders if he is the only one with this problem. Maybe there is something wrong with Deimos’s WordPress …

Deimos Asks
Do you happen to use this Top Commentators Widget? Did you run into this problem?

1. Download WordPress 2.5 ZIP Archive
2. Uncompress the ZIP Archive
2a. Check plugins compatibility (very important!)
3. Upload files to the path of the file server where the WordPress powered blog is hosted
4. Update WordPress Database

In step #3, overwrite all existing files. There are quite a number of unused files in the previous version (WordPress 2.3.3) so there 3 options here:

1. Ignore them (This is Deimos’s option, no problems encountered yet)
2. Delete them (Many files, perhaps option #3 is the best option)
3. Delete the old folders first, then upload new files (don’t delete plugins and themes folder)

For step #4, access the WordPress Admin Dashboard for the first time after the new WordPress 2.5 files has been uploaded, you will be notified that your WordPress database is outdated, just follow the on screen instructions to update the database.

Are you plugins compatible with WordPress 2.5?
Before you upload those WordPress 2.5 files, please check if your plugins are compatible:

Deimos had to deactivate Simple Tags and update NextGEN Gallery to the latest version.

So it is finally here – WordPress 2.5 – the new WordPress 2.5 Dashboard might need some time to get used to, it looks totally different. Should not be a problem for Deimos since he adapts easily.

Deimos analyzed his WordPress powered blog via Pingdom Tools and noticed that the loading time is indeed faster! Go WordPress 2.5!

Is it just me, or did WordPress start to publicly announce the list of files modified, starting with this release? Amusingly, they choose to let some Village Idiot host the update files.

Of course, this certainly would not stop me from hosting my own set of files update package. I put more confidence in my own work, not some Village Idiot.

As for why they delegate a task of such importance to such Village Idiot is totally beyond my understanding, perhaps someone would be kind enough to enlighten me?

Implementation
Upload the Plugin’s files into the plugins folder, activate the plugin then edit the WordPress Theme’s “Single Post” theme file (usually named “single.php”) and add in this line of code into a suitable place:

Options
There are a few options to tweak as depicted in the below screenie:

There seems to be a typo – “Dispaly” ought to be “Display” instead.

Anyway, for the option, there are three sub-options to choose from:
- text: ‘No Related Posts’ [Displays a 'No Related Posts' message]
- Random Posts [Displays some random posts]
- Most Commented Posts [Displays most commented posts]

Function
Attempts to search for related posts based on the tags used. Posts must be tagged in order for this WordPress Plugin to work at all. No tags means no related posts.

Usefulness
Probably useful for exposure of old posts via newly published articles. Linkie happy visitors and or readers would probably go clickie when they saw some catchy titles.

So its always nice to come up with some creative catchy titles to snare some of the linkie happy mofos yo? Higher Page Views in Alexa Traffic Ranking FTW RAWR!

At first I find it a bit troublesome that WordPress did not offer update packages, instead they always shove all the files into each release.

Today I realized that they got list out which files were modified / updated, so basically one only needs to update those modified / updated files in order to update their WordPress to the latest version.

From WordPress’s official announcement page, it seems that this release is another security fix. I guess it would be advisable to update as soon as possible aye?

Would not be very pleasant if one’s draft entries are exposed?
